Security Licence


Licensing

We only process the Security Licences MONDAY TO FRIDAY 9 am to 6 pm.

Under the Security Services and Investigators Act, individuals working in the security, investigation and locksmith services industry must be licensed. Working without a license is an offense under the Act and may result in fines or court appearances. Security service workers monitor, patrol and guard private property and protect people. Individuals can now apply for a license at our office for the following occupations:

  • Security Guard / Security service worker
  • Locksmiths
  • Private Investigators
  • Automotive lock bypass worker

We can only process Canadian citizen or Permanent resident at the Registry in person. DO NOT MAIL YOUR APPLICATION TO THE REGISTRY.

You can bring in your security licences for renewal up to 60 days in advance of the expiry date. We cannot process your licence if the expiry date is more than 60 days away DO NOT come to the Registry because we won’t be able to process your licence renewal.

POLICE INFORMATION CHECK

Cannot be more than 90 days old. Must be original copy, if you have emailed copy of your Police Information Check you can email your Police Information Check when you get to the Registry. Must include Vulnerable Sector Check. We cannot process your licence if there is any kind of criminal record. You must mail your application directly to Security Services.


PASSPORT PHOTO

Your Passport-size colour photo must be date-stamped by the photographer and within 90 days. Your photo does not need to be signed on the back.

What to bring when you come to the Registry to apply or renew your licence (To get a temporary licence through a registry) you must:

  • BE A CANADIAN CITIZEN OR PERMANENT RESIDENT
  • HAVE A CLEAR/CLEAN CRIMINAL RECORD AND VULNERABLE SECTOR SEARCH
  • PROVIDE YOUR COMPLETED SIGNED APPLICATION OR RENEWAL FORM
  • ORIGINAL PHOTO ID (Driver’s Licence, Passport, etc.)
  • PROOF OF LEGAL PRESENCE IN CANADA (Birth Certificate, Passport, PR, etc.)
  • APPROVED TRAINING COURSE CERTIFICATE, AND/OR ACTIVE LICENCE from a Canadian province or territory (as well as other training documents as required depending on the province you are coming from)
  • 40-HOUR BATON USE-OF-FORCE TRAINING CERTIFICATE (IF APPLICABLE)

Pay the licensing fee and service charge at the registry:
  • $109.00 security service licensing fee, or
  • $169.00 dual security service and investigators licensing fee, and

If your application is approved, you'll get a temporary licence that's valid for 60 days.


WORK OR STUDY PERMIT HOLDER

If you are on a work or study permit you must submit your application directly to Security Services. WE CANNOT PROCESS IT IN OUR OFFICE.
